WWE Summerslam 2013 Predictions

I honestly did not expect this card to look this good. Summerslam has disappointed fans in the past few years, often relying too heavily on one main event match to make the show. Then when that one match didn’t live up to expectations, we would all be left looking at each other thinking WTF was that!? Well I can pretty much guarantee that this year, Summerslam is going to shine. Recently, the storylines in WWE have drastically improved and so too has the in ring wrestling. The bookers and writers deserve recognition for their great work. But of course, the guys that make the show possible are the wrestlers. The guys that put 100% into every match, whether it’s a short squash match or a 30 minute classic! They deserve the most credit. My current top 3 wrestlers are CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Christian, all of whom are involved in the 3 main events. You can imagine how much I’m looking forward to this show!

This show has been clearly designed for the the fans of good wrestling and I urge anyone who watches wrestling occasionally to make sure they watch this one! With that, here are mine and Jahmar’s predictions for WWE Summerslam 2013!

Match Card & Predictions

WWE Title Match

John Cena vs Daniel Bryan (Special Guest Referee: Triple H)

This is the biggest match of Daniel Bryan’s Career. He had a run with the World Title but this is on a whole other level. Main eventing with Cena in this era will always overtake anything else (except fighting Undertaker at Wrestlemania). The build up has been great with Bryan claiming Cena is not in the same class as him. The promos on the last Raw were intense and many truths were disclosed. Not sure why they needed Triple H to be added as the referee but whatever. I think Bryan has this one but I don’t think he will beat Cena clean. I am sure some other shenanigans will take place in the match involving the McMahons and possibly Randy Orton cashing in on the winner.

Warren’s predicted winner: Daniel Bryan

What I like about this match is that it has that ‘Big Fight’ feel to it, there’s no second guessing that this deserves to be the main event. What ‘s funny is how  Cena used to be the young superstar challenging the top guys in the business ready to take their stop. since the ‘changing of the guard’ we now find Cena as the top star with hungry challengers ready to take his spot. Not since Punks rivalry with Cena have we seen someone so eager to become the next top guy in the company. I expect great back and forth action between these two with counters and kick outs a plenty. Cena needs great wrestlers to push him in order for him to be at his best. Add the sub storyline between Vince and Triple H with a possible surprise from MR. MITB and you have the makings of a new age classic. The American Dragon will shine the brightest in this one.

Jahmar’s predicted winner: Daniel Bryan

The Best vs The Beast

CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar

Well this has been a match waiting to happen for a while! Ever since Heyman alligned himself with CM Punk during his title run last year, we have all been waiting for this to happen. When you compare these two, Punk looks like he has no chance at beating Lesnar. However, I can see Punk putting up a good fight and taking Lesnar to the limit. Heyman is pretty much guaranteed to get involved and will most likely cost Punk the match in the end.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Brock Lesnar

The match build up seems like it’s come straight out of a comic book. These two are polar opposites but I’ am interested to see what their chemistry is going to be like in the ring. This is going to be a straight up fight with Lesnar as the aggressor and Punk trying his hardest to slay the beast. I agree with warren Heyman will definitely have a hand in this match. Punk will fight to the last punch, but Lesnar ‘s backup in Heyman and possibly Axel may be too much for Punk to handle.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Brock Lesnar

World Heavyweight Title Match

Alberto Del Rio vs Christian

Christian finally gets his “one more match!”. These two match up very well and have had excellent matches in the past. This is sure to be a an amazing contest. Del Rio is now a full fledged heel and he is much better this way. I love the fact that Christian has been put back into the main event scene but I don’t see him winning this one. With Del Rio getting rid of his manager/announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, it will be interesting to see how he pulls this one off.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio has evolved a great amount since these two last fought on PPV. This is a great thing because its a refreshing approach to an old rivalry. Del Rio establishing himself as a heel week after week which is great because we know now that he has more to offer as a top main eventer. Christian has been lost in the shuffle when it comes to the main event picture and I’m glad WWE has decided to put him back in it. No matter what place Christian is on the card he will always perform at a high level like the veteran he is, even if it is for a short time again. Expect this to be the gem on the card.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Ring of Fire Match

Kane vs Bray Wyatt

For those wondering just what the hell this match is, it’s basically a normal match with the perimeter of the ring set on fire to prevent anyone from leaving or entering. The winner is still decided by pinfall or submission so it’s not like the classic inferno matches of the past. This has been in interesting storyline so far and I’m curious to see where it leads to. I see Wyatt winning this one as this is his first official match as this character. He needs to be put over strong.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Bray Wyatt

I’ll be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to this match. I knew it wasn’t going to be the classic rules of an inferno match but the aspect of having fire around the ring this something that intrigues me. Maybe a spot that happens at the end of the match? probably not. The Wyatt family is a unique stable and I’m intrigued to see where they go after this match. Bray Wyatt has to win this one I don’t see it going any other way. Expect Kane to take some time off after this.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Bray Wyatt

Cody Rhodes vs Damien Sandow

Before the Money in the Bank PPV, these two were a tag team who weren’t getting much TV time. During the ladder match, Cody kicked his character to another level and the crowd got behind him big time. Just as we all thought he would win the match, his “best friend” came in, threw him off the ladder and grabbed the briefcase. Since then, Cody has become a crowd favorite and they are both getting much more deserved attention. I think Cody will be victorious in this one as Sandow seems to be on a bit of a losing streak but he has the MITB briefcase so it doesn’t matter right?

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Cody Rhodes

I’m glad these two are getting pushed, especially Cody’s who’s push is long overdue. Sandow has been entertaining and I’m looking forward to him cashing in his MITB briefcase. Cody’s performance at the end of last months ladder match was a turning point for him a definitely made me a believer that he can ascend to the next level. This rivalry has been intense and will explode at Summer Slam. I see this feud going on for longer after this but that’s a good thing. WWE gets it right sometimes with the mid card and this is one example of them doing so.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Damien Sandow

Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn vs Big E Langston & AJ Lee

Not too happy about the Ziggler’s position on this card but it’s better than nothing I guess. The ongoing storyline between him and AJ Lee has to end somewhere and I think this is it. Big E has looked good in his recent matches (although he needs to get some ring gear that fits) and that should be no different here. Kaitlyn and AJ have been at each others throats for ages now so this whole thing HAS to end here. Ziggler should be in the World Title picture by the next PPV.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn

I would of preferred to of seen single match out of these four participants, nut i guess they are pressed for time on this PPV with other matches receiving more time. I hope this is the end of the Dolph/AJ saga for them to go on and do bigger and better things. Dolph should go back into the title picture and Big E should establish himself more after this feud, but this is a good start. This may be an one of the more entertaining mix tag matches in Summer slam history.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Big E & AJ Lee

Natalya vs Brie Bella

For some odd reason, Total Divas has actually been quite interesting and this match is on the card purely to promote it. Not expecting anything spectacular wrestling wise but at least I’ll have a chance for a toilet break.  Although, Natalya is the only Diva on the case of Total Divas that has any actual wrestling skill so it might be a half decent match. I see her winning this one with the old Sharpshooter.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Natalya

I only watch total divas for the drama of the every day life of the WWE diva (said no man ever!) but still this match is only for extra promotion of the show and to attract those who watch the show into ordering the PPV. The popular Diva wins this one (Sorry Natty).

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Brie Bella

United States Title Match

Dean Ambrose vs Rob Van Dam

Pre show…..Why in the blue hell is this on the pre show!? Dean Ambrose is one of the best up and coming wrestlers WWE has. RVD is an established veteran who recently returned. They both come from “extreme” backgrounds so it will be interesting to see how well they match up. This will probably be the best pre show match ever. I reckon Ambrose will retain due to interference from the Shield. It will probably lead to another match between the two.

Warren’s Predicted Winner: Dean Ambrose

I get why this is on the pre show and its a good match to have on there, but having this on the actually card would make the card solid from top to bottom. RVD’s return has been awesome and his string of matches have been really good especially his stellar match with Jericho on Raw a few weeks back. What happens when you put an ECW alumni against a guy who’s extreme by nature? total chaos, expect the offence from both these two to be unorthodox and entertaining.

Jahmar’s Predicted Winner: Dean Ambrose
