Parker

For those of you who have seen Payback you may or may not know that it was an adaptation of a Richard Stark’s Parker novels entitled “The Hunter”. The Parker novels are similar to the James Bond novels. “The Hunter” was adapted twice, first in 1967 and again in 1999, however this is the first time the main character is actually named “Parker”.  This new film starring Jason Statham is based on the parker novel “Flashfire”.

A professional thief (Jason Statham) is double crossed and left for dead after pulling off a five man job with a crew he doesn’t know. But he survives and follows the members of the crew to take revenge with the help of a Realtor, Leslie Rogers (Jennifer Lopez).

Well some are calling Parker a remake of “Payback” but I don’t see it. Yes there are similarities such as pulling a job and then being double crossed but other than that nothing else was the same. Personally I still love “Payback”. Parker was ok, but to be honest I only really watched it because it had Statham in it (Big Jason Statham fan).

I felt that the film could of done without having Jennifer Lopez in it (Don’t get me wrong it’s great to see her, and yes she is still sexy as hell!), But her scenes felt like they were stretched out simply because it was Jennifer Lopez, Her scenes also slowed down the pace of the film for me.

The film is about 2 hours long again personally I thought it could have easily been cut down to an hour and a half and still be enjoyable.

All in all Parker is a decent film; don’t expect a brilliant narrative or great dialog. If you’re a Statham fan you won’t be disappointed.
