2013 is here and there are lots of films to look forward to. So here’s a little list of films that we think you need to check out this year!
The Last Stand
Arny’s back! Ok yes I know what you’re thinking he was in “Expendables 2” but that was more like an extended cameo, The Last Stand is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to the big screen in the lead role since “Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines”.
Arnold plays Sheriff Ray Owens an Ex-LAPD officer who has resigned himself to fighting crime in the small town of Sommerton Junction. Sherriff Owens is forced to round up his inexperienced deputies when a notorious drug kingpin Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) escapes an FBI prisoner convoy and heads for Sommerton Junction on his way to Mexico and freedom.
The Last Stand is out in cinemas on tonight (25th of January).
When I first saw the trailer for Movie 43 I thought it was a viral or a fake trailer trying to promote a product or something. But when I found out it was a proper film I instantly got excited. From what I’ve seen via trailers it does look like the kind of film where your either going to hate it or love it. The humour looks similar to “Family Guy”, “South Park”, “American Dad”, “Ted” Etc. with that in mind it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Movie 43 follows 3 kids as they embark on the search for the most banned film ever. The film is made up of many short films which these kids stubble upon on their search on the internet. The film has one of the most exciting cast lists I’ve seen in a while with some big Hollywood names such as Seth MacFarlane, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Gerard Butler, Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Halle Berry and many more.
Movie 43 is out in cinemas on tonight (25th of January).
A Haunted House
Who remembers how awesome the first 2” Scary Movie’s” were? Well since the Wayans brothers left the “Scary Movie” franchise many fans have been hoping they will one day return. After some rumours of them returning in scary movie 5 I was disappointed to see it was not true. But then I stumbled upon this. Now it may not be “Scary Movie” but it’s the best were going to get.
A young couple, Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house. But as they settle in their beautiful new home, Malcolm soon learns there is a demon in the house. In order to rid their new home of this demon they hire everyone from a Priest, Father Doug Williams (Cedric the Entertainer) (who is an ex-con and actually a priest in training), to a Psychic whose more interest in Malcolm than catching the demon, to the modern day ghost busters.
From the trailer it looks like the main story is based on the “Paranormal Activity” franchise while spoofing other horror films such as “The Haunting”, “The Exorcist”, “Quarantine”,” Insidious”,” The Devil Inside” and “Sinister”. Now A Haunted House is already out in the USA however I can’t find a release date for the UK, but I really hope this is in cinema and not just a straight to DVD release.
Bullet to the Head
Here we have one of the film’s I’m really looking forward to, based on a French graphic novel entitled “Du Plomb Dans La Tet”, with the production team that bought us I Am Number Four and with Sly Stallone in the lead role its Bullet to the head.
A hitman (Sylvester Stallone) and a cop (Sung Kang) team up after witnessing their respective partners die. The unlikely duo takes on everyone who stands in their way to get revenge on a common enemy.
It looks like Stallone’s going back to basics; with a simple plot, some good shoot em up/beat em up scenes and a bit of humour. This seems like a film to sit back, switch off your brain and just enjoy.
Bullet To The Head hits cinemas on the 1st of February
Stand Up Guys
Stand Up Guys is another film I’m really looking forward to this year. With one of my favourite actors, Al Pacino in the lead, Co-starring Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin it’s the black comedy stand up guys.
After doing a 28 year stretch in prison, Val (Al Pacino) and Doc (Christopher Walken) are reunited. But Val soon learns that Doc is contracted to kill him by the mob boss Claphands (Mark Margolis). So together they rescue Richard Hirsch (Alan Arkin) from a rest home and together they go on one last night out, where they meet with various quirky characters and events.
Personally I’m really looking forward to this, I’m a big fan of Pacino and I think the cast is superb. I don’t think we will be let down by an academy award winning cast.
Stand Up Guys is in cinemas February 1st
A Good Day To Die Hard
Yippee Ki Yay MotherF***er! John McClane is back in one of the year’s possible big blockbusters. This time John McClane is joined by his son as they fight for good.
John McClane (Bruce Willis) travels to Moscow to help his wayward son Jack (Jai Courtney). But finds out Jack is actually highly trained CIA operative trying to stop a nuclear heist. As father and son they battle against the Russian underworld and a countdown to war.
Some people are complaining saying that guys like Bruce Wills, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone should retire from the action hero kind of films. I personally love and respect these guys for going this long. I mean ok their old, yes. But I feel that the roles they are doing are appropriate for their age. Such as Arnold in “The Last Stand” he plays a retired Ex-LAPD officer, In “Die Hard 4.0” John McClane went up against Thomas Gabriel who tried to take down the entire computer and technological structure that supports the economy of the USA and the world. In the film you can see John McCleans age as he wasn’t in touch or up to date on all the technology, you could see he is a very “old fashioned guy”. So in my opinion let them keep making action films as long as it looks right and doesn’t seem unlikely. Personally I’m looking forward to the new Die Hard film. I’ve heard rumours of a spin off film for his son Jack but not sure if there’s any truth in them.
A Good Day To Die Hard is in cinemas on Valentine’s Day and for those of you guys who don’t know when that is it’s on the 14th of February.
Escape from Planet Earth
No, this is not another “Escape” film with Kurt Russell reprising his role as Snake Plissken. It’s an animated comedy out of this world. Seriously it’s out of this world… it’s about blue aliens!
On the planet Baab, Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser), an astronaut is a national hero. With the help on his by-the-book nerdy brother Gary (Rob Corddry) they have pulled off numerous daring rescues. But things turn sour as the brothers learn of a dangerous SOS from a dark planet, despite Gary warning Scorch of its danger he sets off on another exciting mission. However things go wrong and Scorch is captured by area 51, now it’s up to Gary to save his brother.
The film also features the voices of Jane Lynch, Craig Robinson, Jessica Alba, Sarah Jessica Parker and William Shatner. As usual with animated comedies it should be a lot of fun to check out, if it’s with the kids, little siblings or even with friends.
Escape from Planet Earth is in cinemas February 14th and yes guys you’re more likely to watch this with your girlfriend/wife on Valentine’s Day than “A Good Day To Die Hard”.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
Here we have a film that puts a very different spin on the well-known fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel”.
The film takes place many years after the gingerbread house incident. Hansel and Gretel have grown up into vengeful bounty hunters who have dedicated their lives to hunting down and exterminating witches.
It’s going to be fun seeing how the narrative of the film unravels; the film does look like a dark take on the well-known fairy tale, the special effects look good and the film does look badass!
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is in cinemas February 22nd
The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) has been a busy boy! Here is the first of 4 new films he’s done. Snitch is an action/drama/thriller which is based on a true story. And from Dwayne Johnson past credits such as “Walking Tall” and “Gridlock Gang” I have full confidence that it will be a good thriller with some emotional and kick ass action scenes.
When his son is wrongfully arrested and given 10 years in prison for distributing drugs, the father (Dwayne Johnson) makes a deal with the DEA to go undercover and become a police informant to gain access to a drug cartel, but in doing so he risks the lives of his family and himself.
Hopefully this will be the start of a good year for Dwayne Johnson, as well as having another 2 films releasing this year he’s back doing his thing in the ring on RAW.
Snitch is in cinemas February 22nd
Fan of horror films? Well here comes a film from the producers of “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious”.
The Barret family leads a perfectly normal and peaceful life in the suburbs. However a series of disturbing events leaves the family terrified to learn that a deadly force is after them.
Dark Skies does look good via the trailer but then again so does every movie. To be honest not a lot of horror films scare me, but I’m hopeful that this is a good one.
Dark Skies is out on February 22nd
Ever heard of The Hughes Brothers? No? Well they directed films such as; “Menace II Society” (which I’m sure many of you are familiar with), “Dead Presidents” (with Chris Tucker) and “The Book of Eli” (with Denzel Washington). Well Allen Hughes took a breaking away from directing films with his twin brother Albert and ventured on his first solo directing effort which is Broken City.
Broken City is a political crime drama which revolves around a cop Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) who turns private detective after being in a controversial shooting incident and is kept out of jail by Mayor Hostetler (Russell Crowe). But there’s more to the Mayor than meets the eye. After being paid to investigate if the Mayors wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is having an affair Taggart ends up seeking revenge after he is double crossed.
Looking forward to checking this out as I’m sure it will not fail to entertain with an academy award winner (Russell Crowe) and academy award nominee (Mark Wahlberg) backing this drama driven film.
A quick bit of trivia, Allen Hughes actually directed the music video for Dr Dre’s “I Need A Doctor” featuring Eminem. Just thought I’d share that bit of information with you guys.
Broken City is out in cinemas March 1st
What do you get when the director of “Horrible Bosses” teams up with a producer of “TED”? Well you get Identity Thief! Identity Thief is a comedy about… yes you guessed it a stolen Identity.
Businessman Sandy (Jason Bateman) finds out that his identity has been stolen, so he goes in search of the thief, who turns out to be a harmless looking woman (Melissa McCarthy).
A very simple plot but then again you don’t need an elaborate plot for a comedy. It does look funny and like I said the director of “Horrible Bosses” and a producer of “TED” is involved with this film so hopefully if its anything like those two films it will defiantly be worth checking out!
Identity Thief is in cinemas March 1st
Remember “Oldboy”? Remember how awesomely sick and twisted it was? Well if you enjoyed “Oldboy” you’ll love this. From the director that brought you “Thirst” and “Oldboy” Park Chan-wook, comes a psychological thriller.
After the demise of her father, a mysterious uncle, (Matthew Goode) moves in with India (Mia Wasikowska) and her unstable mother (Nicole Kidman). India suspects that the empty void left by her father is being filled by her uncle. She also comes to suspect that this enigmatic and charismatic man has ulterior motives. But instead of feeling outraged or horrified she is bizarrely and increasingly infatuated with him.
This is Park Chan-wook’s first English spoken film and hopefully not his last. When I saw the trailer I couldn’t help but this that the film may have been inspired by Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt, but then again that is just a personal opinion.
Stoker is in cinemas March 1st
Oz the Great and Powerful
Oz the Great and Powerful is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”, and is set before the events of “The Wizard Of Oz”. So there’s no scarecrow, no tin man, no lion, no Dorothy and no yellow brick road.
A small time circus magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is hurled away from Kansas to the Land of OZ where he meets the 3 witches Theodora (Mila Kunis) Glinda (Michelle Williams) and Evanora (Rachel Weisz), who are doubtful of the fact that he’s the great wizard everyone’s been waiting for.
The films CGI look brilliant and as I watched the trailer I couldn’t help but be reminded of the latest “Alice in Wonderland” film. Hopefully this will be a fun film for the whole family.
Oz the Great and Powerful is in cinemas on March 7th
Who remembers the 1999 film Payback with Mel Gibson? Haven’t seen it? Check it out brilliant film in my opinion. For those of you who have seen Payback you may or may not know that it was an adaptation of a Richard Stark’s Parker novels entitled “The Hunter”. The Parker novels are similar to the James Bond novels. “The Hunter” was adapted twice, first in 1967 and again in 1999, however this is the first time the main character is actually named “Parker”. This new film starring Jason Statham is based on the parker novel “Flashfire”.
A professional thief (Jason Statham) is double crossed and left for dead after pulling off a five man job with a crew he doesn’t know. But he survives and follows the members of the crew to take revenge.
Now after hearing about the film and seeing the trailer I can see a lot of similarities between Parker and “Payback” despite them being adaptations of 2 different Parker novels. But either way I’m looking forward to see how this unfolds.
Parker is out in cinemas March 8th
Dead Man Down
“Blood Demands Blood” is one of the tag lines for this action/thriller, from the director and also featuring the lead girl from the original “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” comes a film about revenge.
Victor (Collin Farrell) is an enforcer to an NYC boss, who is also responsible for the death of his wife and daughter. After his boss is under threat by and unknown killer Victor turns detective. In the course of being a detective Victor is seduced by Beatrice (Noomi Rapace) who then blackmails him into aiding her get her own revenge. While trying to get revenge himself for the demise of his wife and daughter.
It does look like a simple revenge film with lots of action which does look good; I was also surprised to see that WWE has a hand in this film. Really hoping this is a good action film.
Dead Man Down is in cinemas March 8th
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Are you a fan of Jim Carrey? Well here’s one for ya! Jim Carrey teams up with Steve Carell to bring you this “Magical” comedy.
Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) are a famous and favoured Las Vagas Magic act. But after Burts sidekick gets injured while doing a trick and moves to the Far East the partnership ends. Leaving Burt overshadowed by a popular street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey).
Just from the trailer it looks funny, and I’m looking forward to the Carrey/Carell team up again. As usual Jim Carrey seems over the top, larger than life, but let’s face it that’s how we love him! Defiantly looking forward to this one.
The Incredible Burt Wonderstone is in cinemas March 15th
Jack the Giant Slayer
Here another modern day take on a famous fairy tale after “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters “. This time the fairy tale in question is “Jack And The Beanstalk”.
In hope of rescuing a kidnapped princess, a young famer leads a journey into the giants’ kingdom.
As with “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters “it will be interesting to see how the narrative unfolds. The CGI looks great, strong cast which features Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Warwick Davis, Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor and Nicholas Hoult.
Jack the Giant Slayer is in cinemas March 22nd
G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Here’s The Rock’s (Dwayne Johnson) 2nd film of the year, the sequel to G.I. Joe.
The G.I Joe team has been framed for crimes against their country and terminated by the president’s order. The surviving members of the team go after Zartan and his accomplices. In order to succeed with their mission they enlist the help of the original G.I. Joe General Joseph Colton (Bruce Willis).
Was a bit disappointed that Marlon Wayans wasn’t reprising his role as Ripcord, but we got Bruce Willis and The Rock instead so let’s see what happens.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation is out in cinemas March 27th
The director of bridesmaids, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy come together to bring you this buddy cop comedy.
Uptight FBI agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is thrown together with Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) a bad-tempered Boston cop to bring down a drug lord. One slight issue, neither of them have ever had a partner before.
The Heat is in cinemas on April 5th
Yep it’s been remade! One of the “Classis”. Now I don’t know what to expect from the new version of Evil Dead. To be honest most of the remakes of the classics have flopped, but maybe this will be different. That being said it is said that this is a re- imagining with a new story. After seeing the trailer it’s defiantly on my list of films to see this year.
Five friends discover a book of the dead as they are holed up in a cabin. Unknowingly they summon up demons living in the woods. These demons then possess the youngsters leaving only one struggling for survival.
I for one will be giving this a chance, this is for sure though theres going to be lots of blood and gore!
Evil Dead is in cinemas April 19th
Scary Movie 5
So here it is Scary Movie 5. Anna Faris who has done the last four films said she would not be reprising her role as Cindy. Her reason for passing on this film is unknown. Remember the Wayans brother’s film “A Haunted House” which is on this list, well both “A Haunted House” and Scary Movie 5 are spoofs of “Paranormal Activity”.
Dan and Jody a happily-married couple start to witness strange occurrences when they bring home their new born baby Aidan. They soon learn that they are being stalked by a demon and take the necessary steps to rid their lives of it before it’s too late.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the two films (“A Haunted House” and Scary Movie 5) make fun of a franchise that I find scary. Also I’m looking forward to Katt Williams joining the Scary Movie cast list.
Scary Movie 5 is out in cinemas April 12th
Oblivion is a sci-fi film which is based on a graphic novel of the same name.
The year is 2073, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is a drone repairman who is posted on earth. Jacks mission is to extract important resources after years of war with a threat known as the Scavs. His mission is nearly over however saving a woman from a floored spacecraft trigger’s events that causes him to question everything that he knows.
Oblivion is in cinemas April 12th
Olympus Has Fallen
Action thriller brought to you by the director of training day.
Gerard Butler explodes onto the screen as a former Special Forces officer Mike Banning, who recently was removed as a Secret Service Agent due to failing to save the first lady. But when Korean terrorists led by Kang (Rick Yune) take over the white house and holds the president (Aaron Eckhart) hostage, it seems Mike is the only person capable of saving the president and confronting the terrorist.
Gerard Butler is joined by Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd to bring you this thriller. If you like action films I’m sure you’ll find this entertaining.
Olympus Has Fallen is in cinemas April 19th
Iron Man 3
“Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”. After the major success of “The Avengers” I know a lot of you, as well as myself are looking forward to the next instalment in the “Iron Man” franchise. Iron man 3 seeing Tony Stark battling with his arch enemy “The Mandarin”.
As Tony Stark embarks on a journey to find out who is responsible for destroying his personal world he is faced with a powerful enemy, The Mandarin.
The film does seem to have a darker sense to it from the trailer, is that a good or bad thing? I’m not sure, but I’m excited to see how The Mandarin is portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley, Also Rebecca Hall as Dr. Maya Hansen one of the Extremis creators and Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian the creator of the Extremis virus.
I’ve come across a lot of people who are saying that the casting for The Mandarin is rubbish and that it will not work etc. and all I’ll say is give him a chance people! Have a look at the late Heath Ledger R.I.P, when people found out he was casted to play the role of The Joker in “The Dark Knight” everyone said the film would flop, even I made that mistake. But then we actually gave him a chance and it turned out to be one of the best Joker roles, somewhat an iconic Joker role. So let’s give Sir Ben Kingsley and chance.
Iron Man 3 is out in cinemas on April 26th
Pain and Gain
Here’s another film I’m looking forward to, The Rocks (Dwayne Johnson) 3rd films of the year Pain And Gain
Bodybuilding trio Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg), Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) and Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson) get mixed up in an extortion ring and kidnapping scheme that goes extremely wrong.
The film is based on the true story of a couple of steroid abusing bodybuilders in Florida. Since I heard about this film I’ve being looking forward to it. A little bit of trivia here, Mark Wahlberg ate a whopping 10 meals a day to add enough muscle mass for this role. Major respect! Also there’s a lot of rumours the The Rock actually took steroid for the film, if there’s any truth in them I have no idea but he defiantly looks like a beast in the film.
Pain and Gain is in cinemas May 3rd
Fast & Furious 6
So here we are the 4th and final film The Rock’s (Dwayne Johnson) done for this year. Fast and Furious 6 bring together Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Elsa Pataky, Sung Kang, Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and new addition Joe Taslim from the Indonesian film “The Raid”
The plot is unknown; there’s no trailer nothing other than who’s in the film. But that being said there is defiantly a lot of hype for this film and I am really looking forward to see where this instalment takes us, after really enjoying the last film.
Fast and Furious 6 hits cinemas on the 24th of May
The Hangover Part III
I know what you’re thinking another one? How can they make a 3rd with the same plot? Well this time there’s no wedding and no bachelor party. Instead this time the Wolfpack hits the road. And yes things still get crazy!
The Hangover Part III is in cinemas May 24th
Real life father and son Jaden Smith and Will Smith play father and son in M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth.
1000 years after catastrophic events forced humankind to abandon Earth, teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his father General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) crash land on earth, Kitai must embark on a journey to signal for help so they can return to humanities new home, Nova Prime. It’s on this journey where father and son must learn to trust each other in order to leave planet Earth
Visually the film looks stunning! Reminds me of the kind of special effects seen in “Life Of Pi” or “Avatar” Will Smith and Jayden both look great, I don’t think you have to worry about them having chemistry as father and son because they are. Looks like a film that will be interesting and no doubt visually beautiful.
After Earth is out in cinemas June 7th
Ever wondered how Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (John Goodman) met?
As we all know Mike and Sulley are an inseparable pair but that wasn’t always the case. Let’s go back to Monsters University and see how these two monsters who couldn’t stand each other met. How they overcame their differences and became the best of friends.
Monsters University is in cinemas June 12th
Man of Steel
Man of Steel is the first of two films that I’m really looking forward to this year. I’m a big comic book fan/geek and absolutely loved Nolan’s “Dark Knight” Trilogy. At first I was a bit sceptical when I heard they were going to reboot Superman (Again), as the last reboot wasn’t that great however I was willing to give it a chance. Then I found out the Christopher Nolan was going to be involved in some way with this project and my faith started to build. Then I saw the trailer and my mouth was left open. It was a simple trailer yes but something about it just cried out “EPIC!” Well as you can tell I have high expectation already!
A child is adopted by a couple in Kansas after being sent to Earth from a dying planet, Krypton. Now grown up Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) poses as a journalist, but he struggles with the question of “Why am I here?”. He feels alienated by his superhuman powers. He discovers that by having powers beyond his imagination he must make some difficult decisions. When the world is in need of help and in order to protect the people he love he must become the Man of Steel.
Many people are asking who the villain is. Is it going to be Lex Luthour? The answer is no Lex Luthor is the arch enemy of Superman. He is what the “Joker” is to” Batman”, what “The Mandarin” is to “Iron Man”. So Lex Luthors presence may be built up towards the end of the film but he is more of a main villain in the 2nd or 3rd instalment. The main villain of The Man Of Steel is General Zod, who is one of Superman’s deadliest rivals.
Man Of Steel is in cinemas June 14th
Now You See Me
What would you do if you could teleport into a bank safe and take every cent that was in there? Would you do it? Would you do it while doing a performance for the perfect alibi and then give all the money to the audience? Ok I’m not saying this is the plot but the trailer pulls you into the story and I’m sure the film will do the same.
FBI Special Agent Dylan Hobbs (Mark Ruffalo) tracks a team of illusionists who during a performance pulls of a bank heist and then rewards their audience with the money. But the real trick is soon to come.
There’s a strong cast list that features Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Caine and Common. The plot seems to be a strong and an attention-grabbing one.
Now You See Me is in cinemas on June 21st
World War Z
I know a lot of people who worked on World War Z and were all looking forward to seeing how it turns out. People are saying it maybe the best film of the year, well let’s wait and see.
A U.N. employee (Brad Pitt) travels the world as he is racing against time and faith to stop an outbreak of a deadly zombie pandemic.
Apparently World War Z is nothing like the book, this is what I’ve been told and I can’t have an opinion on it because I haven’t read the book.
World War Z is in cinemas June 21st
This is The End
I literally just stumbled upon this today and saw the trailer and instantly I wanted to see the film.
Seth Rogen and a bunch of other celebrities are attending a party at James Franco’s house when they are faced with the apocalypse.
The cast list is very similar to “Movie 43” with some big names such as Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Kevin Heart, Rihanna and Craig Robinson. It just looks like it’s a laugh. Look out for the trailer!
This Is The End is in cinemas June 28th
Kick-Ass, Red Mist and Hit girl return in the much awaited follow-up to the 2010 global hit film “Kick-Ass”.
Kick-Ass’s world is turned upside down when a plot that affects everyone he knows is put into action but Red Mist in an attempt to get revenge. But this time Kick-Ass is joined by normal citizens that have been inspired to put on a costume and fight crime.
Kick-Ass 2 is in cinemas July 19th
Despicable Me 2
Steve Carell reprises his role as Gru and is joined by Russell Brand, Steve Coogan and Al Pacino to bring us Despicable Me 2. Oh and yes the minions are back to (Of Course!!!)
The actual plot of Despicable Me 2 is actually unknown, however I’m sure you’ll be happy to find out that the minions have their own spin off movie coming soon.
Despicable Me 2 is in cinemas October 15th
Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine. The actual plot is unknown at this moment of time, all that is know is that wolverine travels to japan where he trains with a samurai warrior.
300: Rise of an Empire
No it’s not the sequel to 300, it’s the prequel. Gerald Butler is not in this one. But let’s have faith and give it a chance after all it is based on the Frank Miller Graphic Novel.
The film focuses on Artemisia I of Caria and Themistocles, as well as Xerxes I of Persia. 300: Rise of an Empire also covers the back story of Xerxes.
300: Rise of an Empire is in cinemas August 2nd
Bruce Willis is really firing them out this year along the The Rock. Here the 3rd film with him in.
Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) returns with his Retired but Extremely Dangerous crew Victoria (Helen Mirren), Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman) and Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich) for a global journey to find a missing portable nuclear device. The mission takes the RED crew to Paris, London and Moscow.
Red 2 is in cinemas August 2nd
Insidious Chapter 2
I personally really liked Insidious, didn’t think it was the scariest film I ever saw but I did like thenarrative. Well here’s the 2nd chapter. That being said nothing else is known about the film other than all the characters are back to reprise their roles. There isn’t even a trailer out yet. But it’s coming out this year so keep your eyes open for it.
Insidious Chapter 2 is in cinemas August 30th
I personally didn’t think I would see and 3rd Riddick film but I’m excited!
On a sun- scorched planet, left for dead. Riddick is faced with an alien race or predators. Bounty hunters from all across the galaxy descend to Riddick only to find that they are pawns in a bigger scheme for revenge.
It would be nice to see Riddick back on the big screen after the big 9 year gap. So far there’s no trailer out so can’t get too excited.
Riddick is in cinemas September 6th
Stallone and Arny together in another film! Ok so this year Arny’s making a comeback with “The Last Stand” and Stallone is going back to basic’s with “Bullet To The Head” and now they’re both in another film? Not bad for 2 old geezers right?
A structural engineer, Ray Breslin (Stallone) is wrongly convicted of a crime. Breslin was a top engineer who designed many high tech buildings. So after Breslin is wrongly convicted he is sent to a prison which was designed by him to serve his time. A prison that was designed to be escape-proof.
Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are thrown together with Sam Neil, 50 Cent and Vinnie Jones. Looking forward to this one, wondering if it’s going to be anything like Stallone’s 1989 “Lock Up”
The Tomb is in cinemas September 27th
Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
Here it is! Other than “Man of Steel” here the main film I’m most looking forward to all year! I’ve been waiting for this film for 8 years. I remember when I first heard they were making the first “Sin City” I got excited and couldn’t wait for the trailer and then I saw the trailer and my jaw almost hit the ground from that day up until the day I actually saw the film all I talked about was Sin City. And yes I did annoy my friends. And I’m at that point again where I knew they were making another “Sin City” and I was excited, now I’m just waiting to see a trailer! I’m a big fan of Frank Millers Sin City as you can probably guess.
I’m not sure as there isn’t much information about the plot but here’s what I think it’s going to be about, taken from the comics and what I’ve read there’s going to be four stories;
A Dame to Kill For; Ava Lord calls for Dwight’s (Josh Brolin) help to escape her abusive husband, Damien Lord a billionaire, but soon learns that Ava’s intentions are far more sinister that they may appear.
Just Another Saturday Night; unable to remember how he got there, Marv (Micky Rourke) regains consciousness surrounded by dead young guys. This happens on the same knight Heartigan (Bruce Willis) met back up with Nancy (Jessica Alba), before he kills himself in “That Yellow Bastard”
Untitled Original Story; at the end of “That Yellow Bastard”, after Heartigan (Bruce Willis) killed himself, Nancy (Jessica Alba) tries to survive with Roark Jr./Yellow Bastards men trailing her.
The Long Bad Night (Original Story); A Cock Gambler, Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) plans to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game, but instead he beats the wrong guy!
“A Dame to Kill For” and “Just Another Saturday Night” segments are actually prequels to Sin city, as they either happen during an event in Sin City or before. Well as you can guess I’m really excited!!
Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is out in cinemas October 4th
Spike Lee retells the 2003 Korean film “Oldboy” or “Oldeuboi” (it’s original title). I’m personally looking forward to see how this is done and at the same time I’m praying that the narrative isn’t “watered down”. Also a lot of people are against it and yes I can see why, but let’s not forget that this film will open up the story of Oldboy to a new audience one which hasn’t seen the Korean version, or maybe doesn’t even know it exists.
After being kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years without any explanation, Joe Doucett (Josh Brolin) has five days to find his captor.
Oldboy is in cinemas October 11th
Thor: The Dark World
When I first saw the trailer for the first film “Thor” I actually had a lack of interest in watching it, I only went to see it as it was one of the films that was part of the build-up for “The Avengers”. However when I did see it, I was surprised at what a good film it was and really thought that the trailer didn’t do the film justice. Now I am a comic book fan but I’ve never read or knew anything of Thor (as in the origins etc). Well here’s the 2nd film in the franchise to continue the journey.
After the events of “Avengers Assemble”, a race of Dark Elves who are led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) plots to plummet the universe into darkness.
Thor: The Dark World is out in cinemas October 30th
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Something I’m sure many of you are looking forward to, is the sequel to The Hunger Games, this time Francis Lawrence takes over as director because Gary Ross felt that his schedule wouldn’t allow him to take the amount of time that he wanted to make this film.
Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta’s (Josh Hutcherson) are put back into the hunger games for a second time.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is in cinemas November 22nd
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Here’s the 2nd part of the epic journey that is the hobbit.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the epic adventure that follows Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) on his way to the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellan) and the thirteen Dwarves.
Like the first film, it will be realesed in 2D 3D and IMAX. You can look forward to the 3rd instalment next year.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is in cinemas December 13th
Last Vegas sees 4 best friends who are in their 60s, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, and Kevin Kline. They decide to escape reality and retirement to go to Las Vegas and throw a bachelor party for their last single friend.
When reading about this film you can’t help but wonder is this a older version of “Hangover”? Either way I’m excited to see where the film takes us.
Last Vegas is in cinemas December 20th
